Michael GeeMale www.genosfear.com My images depict scenes of decay, the result of human neglect over a period of time. Each photograph works alongside the other to provide a sense of narrative, accumulating in the final consumption of one's self in the disorder of their surroundings. Within the images are contradicting signs of an almost anal sense of order contrasting against a deficiency of concern. The extremely defined close up image of the peeling wallpaper navigates the viewer's thoughts to notions of layers, nostalgia and revealing of the past. The neglected plant taking second place to a phone being charged questions our hierarchal care for objects. This image also serves as a divide between previous scenes with the similarly toned bathroom corner, a nod to Jeff Wall's 'Diagonal Composition' series. The decomposing objects laid out as they are against the unclean surface provide a feeling of awkwardness and uncertainty. Finally we see the accumulation of these extremities taking its toll in a sea of compositional and contrasting reflections. |
