I began this year exploring portraits, but I felt they lacked drama and so after Christmas pursued a more dramatic, fashion based series of work. I was interested in old nursery rhymes and some of the connotations, the history behind the tales and also the varying versions of what they meant.

I then did several shoots with different props, models and settings and finally came up with what I thought was the most effective aesthetically. Drama was also created for the viewer with a sinister feel to the images which is in keeping with what I had discovered in my research. Fashion photographers, predominantly Tim Walker and his magical style heavily influenced me. Also Nick Knight and his dramatic fashion shots. Guy Bourdin also influenced my work with his macabre atmosphere.

Last year I had work experience with Harry Borden who helped me gain experience with location lighting and how to deal with professional clients. This helped me dramatically in my final major project and I hope to move to London in the future and work in a similar field. I feel my work is a modern take on the traditional notions of nursery rhymes, although it was important to me for them to be recognisable as those specific nursery rhymes. My work has a sense of mystery and drama to it, with a sinister feel to the final images.
